Spice Drawer Makeover

Let’s talk organization. So being stuck in the house during this pandemic for all this time has been less than ideal for many of us to say the least, but I do appreciate the ability to get more things done around the house, and like many others organization projects have been on the top of the list. One space in my house that has been really neglected is my pantry, more specifically, the spice rack that I have in my pantry.

When I first moved into the house last year, I originally decided to place the rack in my pantry because the overhead cabinet space in my kitchen was limited, so with all the space in my pantry it seemed like the perfect place. However, lately it has gotten really, really bad lol. The the system wasn’t very smooth, the constant walking back and forth to grab what I needed for each meal started to get old, not to mention when it came time to clean up I was not always putting everything back where they belonged. So cue the weekend organization project!

Spice Jars

Transferring your spices from their original containers to a uniformed set of jars is the first step to get that professional organized look. These are the ones i used but this set with the gold lids are really nice too.

Funnel

You will need a funnel to transfer the spices from their original jar into the new glass jars. Some of the spice jar sets come with funnels, but if not, I love this silicone set. The set comes in two sizes and my favorite part, is that they are collapsable for easy storage.

Labels

My favorite part of this project are the new labels. Like the funnel, many spice jar sets come with their own labels, but I think the printed labels give the whole spice rack a polished, modern look. There are quite a few different styles. I originally ordered these minimalist labels from Etsy, but I found them to be a bit limited in options. I liked the look of the Etsy labels a bit more, but I ultimately ended up using these labels from Amazon because they offered so many more label options for the price.

Spice Rack Drawer Insert

Last but not least, you will need a spice rack insert for your drawer. The drawers next to my stove were so small and shallow [ugh, builders grade] so it took me a couple tries to get the right fit for my insert. So as no tot make the same mistake as I did, I suggest you measure the depth, inside length and width before you purchase. This is the one I ended up using. Here is another nice bamboo option that has a couple different size options.
