When it comes to breakfast foods, French toast is close to the top of the list. Bread soaked in a sweet eggy custard sprinkled with powdered sugar, topped with fresh strawberries and drizzled with sweet maple syrup…I mean…doesn’t that sound like poetry?

Now, you can always make French toast with sandwich bread, but using brioche really takes it to another level. That’s part of why this recipe is perfect. The other is the sweetened condensed milk, that gives this custard the right amount of sweetness.

Of course I encourage you to make this recipe is whenever you want delicious French toast but this would be a really nice dish to make if you wanted to impress someone. You could also easily double or triple the recipe to add to a brunch spread. Anyway you serve this, I guarantee you will love it.

Cut brioche loaf into 1-inch slices. In a shallow dish, such as a baking dish, add eggs, milk, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract then whisk until combined. Dip both sides of brioche slices briefly in egg mixture and set aside on a platter. Preheat a buttered nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Fry each slice of dipped brioche until golden brown on each side, about 1-3 minutes per side. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and served sliced fruit and maple syrup if desired.
