French fries are one of my favorite foods. I mean, it may border on addiction but that’s a conversation for another day. So, keeping to the old adage “all things in moderation” I try to find better alternatives for my beloved french fried potatoes whenever I can.
That’s where these sweet little darlings come in. Starting with sweet potatoes that are a great source of vitamin C as well as other nutrients. We’re also gonna skip the oil and grease by baking these without losing any of the flavor.
But wait, there’s more!
Let’s add a kicked up fry sauce with a little cajun spice for good measure.
This recipe is as easy as they come. Cutting the sweet potatoes is the most work you’re going to have to do here. Make sure to cut the potatoes as uniformly as possible to ensure they bake evenly.
Here’s a tip, when baking fries, to get supreme crispiness (a must) it’s a good idea to preheat your baking sheet while the oven preheats. This way, the potatoes get going as soon as they hit the hot sheet pan.
I keep the seasoning on the potatoes pretty light. I like to add a little salt, pepper, cajun seasoning and pinch of cinnamon. But, feel free to add whatever spices you like. It’s your world.
The fry sauce (which is the name a ketchup and mayo blend, in case you were wondering) really takes the flavor to the next level. I add a little cajun seasoning to give it some bite to offset the sweetness of the sweet potatoes. It’s really good. The sauce is totally optional, but I recommend trying it at least once. You won’t be disappointed.
See, simple as pie! (Pie is actually not simple to make, I don’t know why people say this) but, easy nonetheless. My only disclaimer is that you may eat the whole pan yourself in one sitting.
Not that I know anyone who has done that…
I’m just saying. Be aware.
